Yesterday may have been the last for bright foliage!
The Village DPW was out "vacuuming" heaps of leaves that had been raked to the curbing.

This morning it's 43.3 degrees and raining.
Rain should begin to taper off to more intermittent showers during the afternoon. But at the same time, cold air is going to be rushing into the region a few thousand feet up. As we get deeper into the afternoon, it may begin to get cold enough to see some of that rain mix with or even change over to wet snow. This would be mainly true on hilltops south and west of Utica.
On Tuesday night, it will get cold enough for snow to begin to mix in almost everywhere. Most of the precipitation will be confined to areas south and west of Utica. As a result, if there is going to be any snow accumulation, that would be the main area of concern. In the Mohawk Valley, we should only see perhaps a few flakes mix in. On the hilltops on either side of the Valley, a slushy coating is possible, at or above 1,200'. On the Tug Hill and in the Adirondacks, it may also turn cold enough for some wet snow mix in and accumulate lightly."
This "Harvest Witch" made a safe landing in Oriskany Falls, but ..........
...... but once again this poor creature flew straight into that darned tree in front of the Ruanes' home on Route 12!

"Emotions on display at first NYRI hearing" is the headline of a story on WKTV's website.
"NYRI a 'tragedy for the area' speakers say." An article in this morning's O-D includes a schedule of upcoming public hearings.
Also in the Observer-Dispatch, the obituary of former Watervillian Jacqueline Faye Carrese.
Just cruising around, yesterday afternoon - this view of the quarry in Oriskany Falls as seen from Brothertown Road South.
On an old maple on Fuess-Cleary Road, a group of "Artist's Conk" - Ganoderma Applanatum.

"Was always a Red Sox fan growing up with a brother and dad who were Yankee fans; but must say NOW am proud to be a Tampa Bay Rays fan; they have earned it. Of course have a problem with it being the Phillies they are facing!!! (not really) Spring training will be fun!!!!"

HERE'S A NICE POP WARNER UPDATE
from John Savage!
from John Savage!
"A nice crowd of fans showed up Sunday afternoon to support the Waterville Eagle Junior Midgets as they closed out their 2008 regular season with a convincing 34 – 6 win over second place Canastota. The undefeated Eagles are 7 and 0 and will face Ilion in the first round of the Tri-Valley League play-offs at a time and location to be determined (we are hoping for a playoff game at Brothertown Field!).
Waterville already beat Ilion in week six of the regular season 28 – 0, however the Eagles only scored once in the second half, partly due to defensive adjustments made by Ilion’s coaching staff. The re-match should be exciting – I will provide the time and location once we hear from the league." (Thanks, John!)
