All along the route from Rome to Waterville people stood at the roadside to honor John. The Clinton ladder truck held an American Flag above the highway; groups in Westmoreland, Deansboro and Oriskany Falls waited to pay their respects. Perhaps we thought that he was OUR hero, but now we know that he was everyone's.
