Monday

It's Garbage Day!!

57.9 with a gentle rain -
just enough to keep the dust down and make everything look clean.

From WKTV: "A strong cold front will be approaching the viewing area Monday with clouds, showers and thunderstorms. Some of these thunderstorms may be on the strong side with heavy rain, small hail and gusty winds. Temperatures will rise into the mid 70s before the cold front moves in.
A strong storm system in the upper atmosphere is going to develop and park itself over us from Tuesday into the end of the week. This means that there will be a lot of clouds, occasional showers, perhaps some thunderstorms, and temperatures close to 10 degrees or more below normal. There will be some tweaks to this forecast in the coming days, so stay tuned."

The Sangerfield River looked more like a small "crik," as it flowed beneath the bridge on Loomis Road, yesterday afternoon. I later spoke with someone who had paddled the lower end of the Swamp and asked if the water were as low there. "No," he said. "I had about six inches clearance at 'the shallow place.' "

Lightning Bugs are out!

That link will take you to an article in the National Geographic.

Judy Fallon and Wendy Sexton make last-minute arrangements to
displays at the Garden Club Plant Sale that took place last Saturday morning at the Methodist Church.

There were just a few plants left over, and those went home with Mrs. Sexton to be swept up along with many other items that had been available during the weekend's Second Annual Putnam Sreet Purge.

Another "brush sroke" of bright yellow -

behind Alcott's Greenhouses, visible from S. Brothertown Road.

Lots and lots of brush strokes of sparkling white are transforming the elegant old "Bigelow House" on Stafford Avenue. The kitchen portion of the home is referred to in an "archive article" (#8) saying that it was the residence of a Calvin Reed in 1806.
